Year 1 Highlights
Hello my name is Sam and I have recently completed my first year at the university. I'm from "sunny" Gourock on the West Coast of Scotland- so Glasgow is the nearest big smoke. When asked about my course related skills I would say I'm learning a bit of everything- especially photoshopping. See you in second year Youtube tutorials! My first year has taught me a lot about the people and architecture of my home city and I have enjoyed designing in a place that I know and love. I like to make a physical model or two and I enjoy working digitally and by hand. Looking forward to seeing you all in studio some time in the near future.
"To Engage" 1;50 Final Model
The final sectional model of the Blink Art Gallery, Kelvinbridge. This wooden model was used to photograph interior views of the proposed gallery.
"To Engage" Blink Art Gallery- Bar and Library Sketches
A contrast in sketching styles- one neat and one not so neat! The use of line helps to convey different atmospheres in two very different spaces.
"To Engage" Blink Gallery Final Render
The Blink Art Gallery is designed to stand out from the blonde sandstone tenement block. The Gallery works against the rules of the block facade with a modern twist on the traditional triple sash and case windows.
"To Engage" Gallery Floor Plans
Floor plans of the Blink Art Gallery, Kelvinbridge. The gallery features multiple exhibition spaces, workshop studio, office/storage space, library bookshop and a bar with rooftop views.
"To See" Interior Gallery View
The "To See" project from the first semester encouraged students to design a temporary timber art gallery in Kelvingrove park, Glasgow. This image represents one of my gallery spaces designed to exhibit artwork by Glasgow artist Roddy Buchanan.
"To Look" View
The "To Look" project encouraged students to design a piece of vernacular architecture with the purpose of framing a view. My final design was a series of spiralling stone platforms leading up to a view of the Cloch Lighthouse, Gourock (my home town).
