‘Unprecedented times’
Third-year has arguably been my toughest year at university, but also the one that I will appreciate the most in the years to come. I am a firm believer that you learn more from your mistakes than your successes, this year has not only taught me about buildings, housing, and theatres, but also the importance of mental health. In times of lockdowns and isolation, it has been hard to remember to take a step back from university work, I think architecture is a great subject and highly rewarding, but it consumes so much time and personal investment, it really is important to maintain the work-life balance. However, As we move into a post-covid world, I look forward to some well-needed summer reflection. At the start of the year, I was asked ‘What type of architect I wanted to be?’, and my answer was that I do not know. On reflection, I think I want to be an architect who can improve people’s lives with interesting architecture, there is so much shit in the world, If I could clean it up slightly with some new, exciting proposals, I will be happy.
