The Shadow of Streets

Nip Shing Chi

On a journey to an energetic city to explore its characteristics, histories and cultures, crowds were everywhere. They enjoyed the most favourable side of the city, the stunning shopfront, foods, goods and architecture, along the journey.

I started walking into every alley and shortcut that I have seen where the shadow of the city. The first impression was only a few people crossing along even though there was a cafe.

It was interesting to see that some fine-designed advertisements were hanging overhead the alley with rough surface finishing and exposed building services crossing such as pipeworks, air conditioners, wirings and fixtures which supported buildings functioning and maintained the clearness of building frontage.

Once, a creature was sitting on the roof that attracted me to look up at one of the alleys. Suddenly, I found that I have not tried to look up in the city ever, buildings themselves became a photo frame to catch the moment of the sky and city.

To be honest, I would not pass through a back alley or shortcut normally since it gives a dirty and dangerous impression to me. However, after this journey, I will get into these shadows by chance.
